About Toni Blackman
For over 20 years, US Hip Hop Ambassador Toni Blackman, who worked as the poetry/rap coach on Kwame Alexander’s Disney+ Emmy Award-winning series "The Crossover," has led rap, poetry, and freestyle workshops in over 50 countries! This Brooklyn resident is bringing back her successful virtual clinic, "I am an MC: A Rap Workshop for Women," which she co-led with Polaryss during the COVID shutdown. In eight classes over four weeks, this Hip Hop education pioneer offers women and girls a game-changing artist and personal development experience!
Bring your skills
from wherever you are on your journey for a challenging yet relaxed, participant-centered workshop designed to enhance your creativity, self-expression, and elevate your skills. We will practice writing, identifying your flow and trying out new flows, strengthening delivery, exploring techniques for having a commanding presence, and mastering the art of getting open, all while fostering a collaborative vibe that centers both the mind and heart.
This session is for MC’s and rappers returning to the mic or to writing and for those just starting! Toni will break down the cypher (circle), exploring its significance in the creative process. This workshop series will also focus on creation and confidence, performance and expression, incorporating principles of improvisation through exercises and activities that create a safe space for ‘getting open.
What Will You Gain?
Workshop participants will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be an MC, how to rhyme, and how to stand out in cyphers, onstage, and with friends!
